After… read more the safari in Zambia we went on with the Harrier to Malawi. Kay had someone to help us with the papers at the borders, very happy with that. We contacted a lot of transfer companies before we chose Bushride. From the first contact, Kay was responsive, courteous and highly professional. He had excellent references from within Zambia. Kay… read more went out of his way to structure our transfers to suit us and provided a reasonable price. So after researching, calling references and negotiating the trip and the price, we chose Bushride and we were very happy we did.
The first great experience with Bushride in Zambia was when we arrived at Nkonzi Camp in South Luangwa National Park, Kay drove out to our camp to meet us and to review our plans
At our first leg of the trip, Obie our driver was there waiting for us at Lusaka airport to drive us to a lodge on the Lower Zambezi River. He was helpful and energetic and most importantly an excellent driver, with a wonderful disposition. When a challenging and unexpected part of the trip occurred, he addressed the situation with humor and patience.
A few days later, he was waiting for us an hour early to take us the long way back to Lusaka airport.
He drove with care and precision. He found a good shopping mall to buy water, lunch and find a clean WC. We felt safe and taken care of. Even though we had had a delay forced on us on the first leg of the trip, Kay did not charge us extra for the extra service that Obie provided. Kay had also taken the step of contacting our Lodge on the River to confirm the address, the directions (which sometimes are not exact in Zambia), approximate driving time and heads up to any road issues. This was another professional step that went beyond what I expected. Quite an excellent experience and customer service.
During my search for intra-country transportation, I learned that most camps and resorts have their own designated drivers or transfer companies. Often these designated services are extremely expensive and they try to all charge the same prices. When I looked at the mileage, the condition of the roads and the cost of gasoline, I could see that the charges were exorbitant. So I looked extensively for an alternative. I wished I had found Kay for the other legs of my journey in Zambia. I would certainly have used him for all the different transportation parts. His prices were reasonable, his automobile was appropriate to the road conditions and his driver experienced and excellent at what he did. Bushride is not beholden to the owners of the facilities, but to the customer.

I dealt with Kay, the owner, from the beginning in 2019 when I booked transport from Lusaka airport to the remote Mvuu Lodge near Lower Zambezi National Park. His… read more drivers provided transport to there. It's a long journey, and especially slow when night falls given the roads. We made it there at 9 pm after leaving airport around 3:30. The lodge gave us a water transfer on the Zambei River, hooking up with Bushride's drivers again at Chiawa for the return journey. This cut down about an hour total travel time. We were involved in an accident on return. Thankfully no one hurt. But this is where I must say Kay and his team moved mountains to be sure we got back to Lusaka airport in time for our domestic flight to Mfuwe (S. Luangwa Park area) at 4:30. Our driver called Kay and he got the lodge's manager Nibby (who incidentally was nearby en route home for a little time off). Nibby showed up with his brother and we took a Toyota Corolla back to the airport after just a 30 minute delay. When we got to Mfuwe, Kay came to our lodge to check in with us. (He is based there.) We saw Kay daily in between game drives as we tried to salvage some kind of Africa program after learning we could not fly to S. Africa. We stayed an extra night in Mfuwe at Marula Lodge and had decided to try a nice Malawi program, including 2 nights on an island in Lake Malawi. At the very last minute on last day I got several e-mails saying "get first flight out now." So at 7 am on March 21, we booked the last 2 seats on a flight from Lilongwe, Malawi back to the USA. Kay's drivers got us to the Malawi border in just over 2 hours and we seamlessly transferred to his new guide there, Franciwell. He got us to LLW airport in just over 2 hours, in time for our flight. We only had to pay credit card for transport, not for any unused hotel stays. I thank Kay for working hard to be sure we got evacuated and for his time, effort, and research in trying to give us alternate plans. But the worldwide crisis was too much, even though there was zero virus problems in Southeastern Africa. I recommend contacting Kay from Bushride Travel by e-mail. He was the only company with good reviews to ever even reply. He replies promptly when contacted. He also has connections with some lodges, though we had already booked direct before we arranged transport. …

Kay was incredibly helpful and easily accessible, from our initial booking throughout our entire trip. We never had any issues whatsoever with our safari jeep and would only consider booking through Bushride, should we make another trip like this in the future.

Very nice time – We had an amazing time in Zambia. We travelled for 3,5 weeks around the country in a Mishubishi Pajero with a rooftop tent. The Pajero was quite well equipped: Kay… read more had arranged new camping gear for us and we were more likely to have too much gear than too little. We did several safari trips and the car worked fine. If you decide to rent a car from Bushride: tell Kay beforehand what you want to have and where you want to go and he will definitely do everything in his power to help you. Kay and all his co-workers are extremely helpful and flexible.
If you hesitate after reading the last review (the one from Jan from July 2022), just ask Kay about it and he will tell you his side of the story, so you can make up your own mind.
